Can I Finance A New HVAC System For My Home?

Replacing your HVAC system is a major investment in your home alongside others, but what if you could enjoy a comfy home without paying a full investment upfront? At Heart of Ohio HVAC, we’re one of the few HVAC companies that understand heating and cooling expenses can disrupt budgets and other financial plans. That’s why we offer many financing options for our customers to choose from so they can enjoy a new and working HVAC system while still meeting their budget and financial goals.
Whether you’re prepping for a chilly winter or a humid summer, we’ve put together this blog to show you how you can generally expect to finance a brand new HVAC system, the reasons it’s beneficial, and how you can work with your HVAC provider to do so.
Why Should You Finance a New HVAC System?
We know many homeowners wonder this, but there are 4 main reasons we usually give (and there’s plenty more out there).
One of the best reasons to consider is that you’ll avoid paying a huge sum up front. We at Heart of Ohio HVAC offer financing because we understand that a lot of clients don’t want to pay a huge chunk up front and prefer to finance over time to make things more reasonable. Also, sometimes these costs are unexpected, like if a system breaks or if a warranty runs out, and we don’t want clients to feel stuck. That’s why we not only offer financing but also have many options available.
Our other best reason that we give clients is that new HVAC systems are generally much more energy efficient and can potentially save you money on your energy bill over time. You’ll want to make sure you’re getting the right model, so make sure you work with your HVAC company to ensure you’re getting a model that can help with that (not all new models will do that, but a lot will).
Common HVAC Options For Homeowners
There are some common ways to go about getting HVAC financing. Not all of them are going to always be available or provided by your HVAC company, so you’ll want to check with them.
Manufacturer Programs
The first common one is manufacturer programs like Carrier, Lennox, and Trane, which all have financing options. Usually, you’ll need to work with your HVAC company to get access to them, but they are readily available in some areas for homeowners who get their products installed. When you purchase a qualifying system, your HVAC contractor (like us!) helps you apply for financing through the brand’s preferred lender. These often include options like 0% interest for 12–18 months or low-interest long-term loans.
Your HVAC Contractor
Your HVAC contractor should be able to offer you financing. We, Heart of Ohio HVAC, offer our own financing options so our clients have plenty of options to choose from. It’ll depend on which contractor you pick, so make sure you choose wisely. During your estimate or system consultation, we’ll walk you through available loan or credit plans. You can often apply online or in person, and many decisions are made the same day.
Personal Loans
Personal loans or credit unions will also usually be an option that many people look at for an HVAC loan. It’s not usually the best option, but it is always available and can sometimes have competitive rates. Depending on your bank, credit score, and area, this could be a good option for you.
HELOC or Home Equity
The last common financing option is home equity or HELOC. A home equity loan is just a lump sum borrowed against your home’s equity, while a HELOC (home equity line of credit) is a revolving credit line you can draw from as needed. This method can have lower interest rates but may be riskier than the other options.
HVAC Rebates & Local Incentives in Your State
Each state has local programs and incentives made for these situations, and some may still be available. You’ll want to check your local area’s laws or current programs to see if there’s a way you can save or get money back. A great HVAC contractor will help you with this as well (we help all our customers with existing programs).
In Ohio, we have a few rebate programs from utility companies like:
- AEP Ohio: Offers rebates for installing Energy Star® certified central air conditioners, heat pumps, and smart thermostats.
- FirstEnergy (Ohio Edison, The Illuminating Company, Toledo Edison): Often provides rebates for air source heat pumps, smart thermostats, and tune-ups.
In Ohio, we also have local energy efficiency programs like:
- Dayton Power & Light’s energy efficiency program (for older homes)
- PIPP Plus (Percentage of Income Payment Plan) and HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program) for income-eligible households
At the federal level, there are also tax credits for energy efficiency. Currently, here’s what’s available (make sure to check on the current status of what’s available) in July 2025:
-
Up to $2,000 in tax credits for qualifying high-efficiency heat pumps
-
Up to $600 for qualified central air conditioners and gas furnaces
-
Up to $150 for installing a smart thermostat
-
Credits apply to equipment installed in your primary residence
For the local and federal programs and rebates, there are special things required for you to get the benefits/reward of the program so make sure you work with your HVAC contractor to figure out everything you need to do to save money on your HVAC purchase & financing.
What To Ask Before Financing Your New HVAC System
Financing your new HVAC system for your home is a great idea, but not every finance plan is created equal, so you’ll want to do your own research. Here are some things you’ll want to ask as a homeowner and some of the best questions our clients have asked us that we’ve helped answer for them (and now you, too).
- Is there a penalty for early payoff?
- What’s the interest rate and term?
- Are there hidden fees?
- Will your HVAC company help with the paperwork?
You’ll want to ask these questions to make sure there aren’t any hidden rules or unclear things in your plan that work against you. Things like paying off your loan early and having hidden fees do happen, and to stay ahead of them, you can be proactive in asking about these things.
